LARP Pre-Reg Character Pickup
Pickup for pre-registered characters and at-con registration for the LARP! Join us and look through our database for who YOU want to be for the weekend!

Ever loved an anime character so much you wanted to be that character? If you come over to the LARP, you have your chance! LARP, or Live Action Role Playing, is played much like most tabletop games. The game will run the course of the convention, featuring an overarching plot and scheduled events, so you can attend as much or as little as you like. We have over 3,000 anime, manga, video game, and more characters to choose from, so pick your favorite and play using a character sheet and rock-paper-scissors. No dice or cosplay required!

The last thing you remember is a female voice in your head, begging for help, then the world went dark. The world you find yourself in now is like nothing you've ever known before and the only way home, or to stay alive, is to help. Maybe you can get rich along the way or find your impossible dream, but if you can't work together, it may be more than the end of you and everyone with you. What lies in store? What lies ahead, down in the depths?

The answers to these questions -- and more -- can be found at the Zenkaikon 2019 LARP. Signups begin on Friday on the Fourth Floor of the Con Center at 12PM and the game continues through early Sunday afternoon. Play for just a few hours or all weekend long as you step into the shoes of your favorite anime or video game character in real time. Every hero, or villain, has their journey and this year, it may teach you what it means to be a hero... even if it takes you to the core of the world itself.

Artemis
Artemis is designed for anyone who has dreamed of what it would be like to sit on the bridge of a starship. It simulates a spaceship bridge by networking several computers together. One computer runs the simulation and the “main screen,” while the others serve as workstations for the normal jobs a bridge officer might do, like Helm, Communications, Engineering, and Weapon Control. Artemis is a social game where several players are together in one room (“bridge”), and while they all work together, one player plays the Captain - a person who sits in the middle, doesn’t have a workstation, and tells everyone what to do. Sign up for a flight time outside the Artemis Room! Both team and single slots are available.Already scheduled to fly? Be sure to arrive 10 minutes before your flight time!

LARP Opening
This is our opening meeting! Please, come and learn not only how to play in the LARP (with rules simple enough that we've had children play!) but about the setting and unique situation you'll find your character in soon enough!

LARP
This is the beginning of game! Let's introduce you to the world and let you get into character!

Theme: Aliens and Test Subjects

Teaser:

An unknown location. Seven aliens look down upon an area below them.

“Isn’t that the species that rips their opponent’s arms out of their socket during the last experiment?”

“Yesss. They did poorly in that experiment, but let’s see how he does in the Cube. That will truly test their value.”

“They're not /bad/ but I found the ones who worshiped heights to be the most interesting. I can appreciate their tastes.”

(A muttered “of course you would” can be barely heard.)

“Well, /I/ liked the logical ones the best. Slow, but efficient.”

There’s an eye roll that follows. “Needs a better sense of humor, though.”

“I heard there’s a new batch coming in soon, several will be from that planet… what’s it called?”

“Oh yessss, Dirt, was it?"

There’s a confused, surprised sound. “They did /terribly/ the last time they were here! I thought we had given up on them!”

“Our scouts said it’s time to re-evaluate them. They’ve stopped sacrificing each other to ‘invisible beings’.” Complete with a sarcastic tone.

A heavy, somewhat angry scoff follows that statement. “I still think we should have annihilated them when they started feeding people to the lions.”

“We don't annihilated species. We aren't like /them/.” The voice is cross and sharp in rebuke.

“We need the most indicative examples of their species otherwise it's all a waste.”

The aliens look slightly ashamed of whatever ‘a waste’ might mean, but they clearly all understand what it does.

There is some sniffing, then, very excited, “Lunch is here!”

The other aliens quickly perk up from their moment of contemplation. “Oh, lunch!” and begin to shuffle out.

Ever wonder what it would be like if Cloud Strife dated Usagi Tsukino? Or, if Eren Jaeger found true love with Ryuko Matoi?! These matches might not happen, but you never know what wild matches will be made at Zenkaikon's Cosplay Dating Game! Who knows, maybe Deadpool will fall in love with The Borg Queen!

The Cosplay Dating Game is similar to the traditional 'Dating Game' of yesteryear TV. Three bachelors or bachelorettes sit on one side of a curtain. On the other side is the 'prize,' an elusive bachelor or bachelorette for one of the 3 contestants to 'win.' The twist is that participants are in costume and are the character. The prize will ask several questions, which contestants must answer in character. Then “the prize” will choose which date they want. Unlike the real 'Dating Game,' this event is purely for the amusement and entertainment of the participants and audience. No real dating is involved.

Sgt. Frog
Keroro is Sgt. Frog – the leader of a platoon of warriors sent to conquer planet Earth. But when the Amphibious invaders discovered how much humans enjoy dissecting their comrades, the
troops were scattered, the mission was aborted, and Keroro was abandoned. Now, this once
proud soldier spends more time wielding a vacuum than he does the weapons of war. It’s a far
cry from the glory of battle, but hey, at least he’s got his own room. And though the invasion
may have slowed to a hop, Sergeant Frog still occasionally yearns to overcome his karaoke
addiction and reassemble his troops. Watch out world, the frogs are taking over.

Keyforge Tournament
Archon Tournament

Zenkaikon will be hosting a Keyforge tournament on Saturday, running from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Tournament organization provided by Six Feet Under Games, just up the road in New Holland, PA! The tournament is limited to 18 players.

Players are responsible for bringing all of the game components they need to play a game of KeyForge. This includes Æmber tokens, damage counters, a chain tracker, and status cards. For Archon tournaments, players must also bring their own unique deck, including the deck’s identity card. This deck must be registered in the Keyforge App or on the Keyforge website. Players must use the same deck for the duration of the tournament.

Each player is responsible to present their personal QR code (available in the Keyforge App) and their deck’s QR code (on the Identity card) to register for the tournament.

If a player chooses to sleeve their deck, all sleeves within a single deck must be identical in size, color, texture, and condition.

Typically, players use the cardboard tokens included in official product as indicators. However, players may choose to use other items as indicators, so long as they do not obscure significant component information, are resistant to accidental modification, and their purpose of use is clear to both players. The marshal is responsible for determining the legality of an indicator and its reasonable use during a match if objected to by its owner’s opponent. NOTE: The use of dice of any kind is not permitted in KeyForge Organized Play. Similar to tokens, Power and Stun status cards are used as indicators for certain information throughout the course of the game. Players may choose to use other items (except dice) to represent these as well, and once again the marshal is responsible for determining the substitutes’ legality and reasonable use.

The number of swiss rounds will be capped at 4 rounds. Swiss rounds means that each player participates in every round, regardless of whether they win or lose. Players are paired against an opponent with a similar win/loss record for each round. Each round will be thirty-five (35) minutes long. Each match will be played until one player wins a game or until time is called.

There will be prizing distributed to each player that completes the tournament. Prizes will consist of Limited Edition promo items (playmat, tokens, cards). Players that drop from the tournament before the completion of the event are not eligible for prizes.

  • Core Set 2019

  • Ixalan
Rampaging Ferocidon is Banned in Standard Constructed Tournaments.

The number of swiss rounds will be capped at 4 rounds. Swiss rounds means that each player participates in every round, regardless of whether they win or lose. Players are paired against an opponent with a similar win/loss record for each round. Each round will be fifty (50) minutes long. Each match will be played until one player has won two (2) games or time has been called.

There will be booster packs of Ravnica Allegiance distributed as prizes at the end of the tournament to all players that complete the tournament. Every player that finishes the tournament will receive at least one booster pack as a prize. Players that drop from the tournament before the completion of the event are not eligible for prizes. Papercraft is a fun and inexpensive way to build and collect your favorite characters, and has also been adapted as a way to make cosplay armor and props. Join WhiteRakogis of Rakogis Papercraft (rakogispapercraft.deviantart.com) as he shows you all about the process of building a paper model, including both building and designing.

LARP

Cosplay Dating Game [18+]

LARP

Both team and single slots are available. Already scheduled to fly? Be sure to arrive 10 minutes before your flight time!

We all know it to be true: common sense isn't as common as it should be and wisdom doesn't always come with experience. That's why we're here. To help you have a better con, we offer dos and don'ts for both cosplayers and photographers in terms of behavior and practices. We will answer questions and share stories as well.

Play (Dirty) to Win!
Ostensibly, you play games to win. (Assuming we're talking about competitive games: you're not playing to "win" Dungeons & Dragons… are you?) But are really? Shouldn't you be winning a lot more often? Maybe you should try that cheap strategy you've heard about. Punch below the belt. Memorize the deck. Read the FAQ. What's the line between playing to win and cheating? Is "playing dirty" even really a thing? Come for the degenerate strategies, stay for the soul-crushing revelations on winning.

Charity Auction
Zenkaikon has chosen to support Arch Street Center as our official charity for Zenkaikon 2019!

About Arch Street Center

Arch Street Center is a local Lancaster charity whose continuing mission is to support the recovery of adults living with serious mental illness by providing social, moral and material support, recreational and hygiene facilities and fresh, nutritious meals in a safe, nurturing environment. They currently have around 300 members and serve approximately 45 individuals daily, or nearly 16,500 meals annually. Although there are other places in the city to find a meal, there is only one place to find integrated services all year long.

Peer support is at the core of mental health recovery principles. Arch Street Center provides a safe, judgment-free environment where members can feel safe expressing themselves, make and foster friendships and discuss their daily challenges, hopes and dreams. The members themselves become their own social support network, often filling a painful void left by family connections previously lost. Members at risk for social withdrawal, discrimination, employment limitations, homelessness and financial instability can find solace, encouragement, friendship, moral and material support through the connections they make at Arch Street Center.
